Easter is just around the corner, and for those who celebrate it can be a major food holiday, filled with tradition, family, and usually a whole lot of eggs, both real and candy.
In my family, we celebrate Easter twice, usually on two separate dates. We have a big family dinner with ham and an egg hunt for all of the children hosted by my mother. At my house, we celebrate with Romanian traditions and a lamb feast on Orthodox Easter, usually a different date, but this year it is the same. One favorite is dyeing all of the eggs red* and playing the “egg game.” This game consists of everyone picking up the strongest-looking egg and cracking it into someone else’s egg. Whoever wins moves on to the next person until there is one strong egg left standing in the hands of the winner!
Check out these other Easter traditions around the world - I love seeing how people celebrate!
I know many of you have your own traditions, here are some recipes that might help you out with that. Do you like an easter brunch? Perhaps scones, cinnamon rolls, or sweet breads are on the menu:
Quiche is such an Easter staple for many people, try one of these:
Does your family make a big ham or lamb roast dinner? How about some appetizers, biscuits or rolls to go with it?
It wouldn’t be a holiday without dessert!
I wish you all happy baking,
Rachel
*P.S. Actually, I’m somehow TERRIBLE at dyeing easter eggs red, and I’m so very thrilled that a friend has offered to do it this year!
