Hi friends,
Have you had a churro? Recently?
I was lucky enough to find gluten free churros in Spain last summer, you can read all about it here:
They were lovely, but on a regular basis I can’t find a gluten free churro to save my life, much less a puffy golden number like these.
Churros are made out of a dough called “choux” pastry that is first cooked on the stovetop, then eggs are added and it’s cooked again, in this case fried.
You use the same pastry to make eclairs and cream puffs one of my very first baking obsessions!
When you’ve added the eggs and beaten the dough to a thick creamy texture you pipe in strips or fun shapes (how about a birthday number or your SO’s initials?)
Then fry to golden perfection and smother with cinnamon sugar!!
Churros are such a highlight every year at the gluten free summer camp that I volunteer at. Churros for 100+ make the kitchen a doughtastrophe but the look on the campers faces makes it worth it!!
My recipe is below, enjoy the sweet doughy goodness.
Happy frying,
Rachel
