Hi friends,
Do you have a signature recipe?
I’m not sure I really do. There are certain recipes people ask for again and again, but I’m also always moving forward to the next one. It’s like I have too many babies and I love them all.
This recipe I’m going to share with you today is based on my dear friend Jen’s signature chocolate toffee brownie trifle.
As you might imagine, this DECADENT dish is one that stopped the show whenever she walked through the door with it. I mean, brownies, mousse, toffee, whipped cream, AND liqueur - there’s nothing there to be mad at.
It makes me think of her, and all the potlucks, parties, and get togethers that this trifle appeared at to steal the show!
I’ve loved it for years but I thought it might be perfect for your February celebrations of love, obviously best expressed through chocolate.
I’ve shown it here in a large trifle bowl but maybe for V-day I’ll make half the amount and serve it in individual glasses. I did this recently when hosting friends for dinner. My children decided was the perfect moment to hide hot sauce in one of the glasses- it was a fiery surprise indeed!
The full recipe is perfect for a big gatherings, placed in the middle of the table so everyone can scoop their own, perhaps with a cup of coffee.
As for the trifle bowl, I love the kind that can turn into a cake plate as well.
Her recipe originally included chocolate mousse from a mix, which can be difficult to find so i’ve incorporated a 2 ingredient whipped ganache layer. I’ve also included my fudgy brownie recipe - but if you’d like to simplify things King Arthur Gluten Free Brownie Mix works like a dream here.
Need more brownies? Try this one.
Happy Layering,
Rachel
