Hello friends,
I’m back with another gluten free product test! This time gluten free pizza crusts. I have an extra newsletter coming out for all of you this week on Thursday - a guest article, I think you are going to love it!
It’s wonderful to make your crust from scratch - I have quite a few pizza recipes - try this Chicago Style Stuffed Deep Dish Pizza for instance.
Some days however call for convenience, and it’s nice to be able to pick up pizza dough and add the sauce and toppings your family enjoys, without worrying about all the flour flying around at pizza joints. Our family has a Pizza Friday tradition and while I mostly put the dough together myself, it’s nice to have options!
I tested 7 different options for pizza crusts. They range from frozen dough that you can shape yourself (possibly a great idea for garlic knots or calzones?), frozen preshaped circles, and even shelf-stable partially cooked options that can save you freezer space and sit in the cabinet. I listed the prices at the time of writing, that is always subject to variation.
I tested them all with the same tomato sauce - Mutti, my favorite and a product whose praises I will sing in every tomato sauce-based recipe. I also used shredded mozzarella and Penzey’s dried Italian seasoning, that’s it. I wanted the flavor and texture of the crust to shine through! In each product’s case, I followed the package directions for cooking, if it was unclear, I’ve noted it here and what I did.
