5 Gluten free Waffle Brands Put to the Test
Which gluten free waffle brand is the most delicious?
Hi friends,
Today I have a round-up of gluten free waffles, and how they each toasts up and taste as judged by me and my family, tough critics let me tell you I STILL hear about the super salty pasta I made three years ago… sheesh! I have several other product comparisons in this newsletter so if you’d rather hear about gluten free flour, sandwich breads, or pie crusts they are all in the archives!
I was surprised (no not the internet clickbaity kind of surprised, the real kind.) I bought the one we loved most on a whim, and we’d never tried it before. I know there are many other waffle brands that we didn’t try, so maybe drop your fave in the comments so I can try it out and publish a part two someday??
What you should know before we begin: none of these waffles were sponsored by any companies. I purchase the food for these gluten free product comparisons with money from the paid subscribers of this newsletter (thank you paid subscribers!!) That way you can be SURE all opinions are my own and not in any way influenced by a manufacturer.
We tasted these toasted, both plain and with maple syrup. I wanted to see what the bare flavor of the waffle was and how it paired with the syrup. The flavor does change when you add the syrup - something to consider if you prefer other waffle toppers like peanut butter or what my youngest son loves, grilled cheese waffles with rosemary. Yes, that is possibly a bit bougie, now I just have to get him on board with green vegetables and my work here will be done.
We tasted 5 products this go around, and here’s how they stacked up:
Vans $4.49 for 6 waffles -
Even when toasted these were very blonde. They tasted pretty bland plain and were completely taken over by the flavor of the syrup. They were light and airy but not as light as other brands. These were #3 for us. I want to note here that they also make gluten waffles, and the packaging is VERY similar. I’ve made it all the way home with the WRONG waffles and thankfully noticed before opening and gave to a neighbor but… it’s easy to make a mistake. I wish they would make the packaging more distinct.
